Sobre o DevarimAbout Devarim

דְּבָרִים

de-va-rím · “as Palavras”“the Words”

No princípio, Deus falou. E porque falou, tudo passou a existir: “Pela palavra do Senhor foram feitos os céus”Salmo 33:6. A fé cristã nasce dessa convicção simples e imensa: Deus não ficou em silêncio. Ele Se revelou em palavras, guardadas, por inspiração do Espírito, nas Escrituras Sagradas.

O nome Devarim (do hebraico דְּבָרִים, lê-se de-va-rím) significa “as Palavras”.

Devarim, “as Palavras”. Um lugar para examinar a Palavra de Deus com clareza, ouvir a voz da Igreja e construir o seu próprio estudo, do leigo ao teólogo, sobre o firme fundamento das Escrituras.

In the beginning, God spoke. And because He spoke, everything came to be: “By the word of the LORD the heavens were made”Psalm 33:6. The Christian faith is born of this simple and immense conviction: God did not remain silent. He revealed Himself in words, kept, by the inspiration of the Spirit, in the Holy Scriptures.

The name Devarim (from the Hebrew דְּבָרִים, read de-va-rím) means “the Words.” It is the original name of the book of Deuteronomy, taken from its first sentence: “These are the words”Deuteronomy 1:1. In Hebrew, the same root, davar, carries two senses at once: word and thing. The word of God is not empty sound: it has substance, weight and power. When God speaks, something happens.

That is why we chose this name. Devarim is a place to examine the Words, about the Word of God.

A theological root: the clarity and sufficiency of the Word

The Reformation recovered a conviction that runs through all of Scripture: the Word of God is clear enough to be understood and sufficient to lead us to salvation and life (Sola Scriptura). Theology calls this the perspicuity of the Scriptures. “The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple”Psalm 119:130. The Word was given to the people of God, not locked away in a caste of initiates.

Devarim was built on this conviction. Technology here does not create mystery; it removes the fog: it brings the light of the originals, of the translations, and of the wise voice of the Church so that the text may speak for itself. And there is a second root, equally Reformed: the Berean spirit, those Christians “examined the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so”Acts 17:11. Devarim hands that nobility to you: the means to examine, compare and verify for yourself, so that your faith may rest on the Word of God itself.

For the layperson and for the theologian

For the layperson, it is the door that opens: you don't need to know Greek or own a shelf of commentaries to go deep. For the theologian, the pastor and the serious student, it is the workshop: originals, comparisons, commentators, references and notes, integrated, to prepare sermons and studies with depth and speed.

Devarim, “the Words.” A place to examine the Word of God with clarity, hear the voice of the Church, and build your own study, from layperson to theologian, upon the firm foundation of the Scriptures.
